If you (or someone you know) is still trying to figure your taxes, there may be free assistance (from a real person!) available through VITA (the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program).

This is for people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. There are sessions at:

Brown Public Library (Northfield) from 4-7 pm Thursday April 12;

Capstone Community Action in Barre from 9-3 and 4-7pm on Thursday, April 12;

Capstone Community Action in Barre from 10-2 Saturday, April 14.

Winter Evenings begin

The Tunbridge Public Library’s 12th Winter Evenings season of six free Friday evening talks begins Jan. 8. All start at 7 p.m., with refreshments following.

The 2016 programs are:

Jan. 8: Scott Andrew Bartley, genealogist, “An Introduction to Genealogy”

Jan. 22: Alyssa Bennett, Small Mammals Biologist and Bat Specialist, Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, “Flicker in the Darkness”

Feb. 5: Eileen Ahern of Dandelion Acres and Wendy Palthey of Tunbridge Hill Farm, “Ask a Gardener”

Feb. 19: Sue Cain, linen spinster & weaver, “From Flax to Linen”

March 4: Ed Sharron, Science Communication Specialist and Naturalist, National Park Service, Northeast Temperate Inventory and Monitoring Program, “Animal Track and Sign Investigation”

March 18: George Woodard, dairy farmer, actor, filmmaker, musician and storyteller, “An Evening with George Woodard”
